Another American Giant, Gone

It is an honor, but a greatly grieved honor, that my first post should be about the death of an American Giant. The youngest son of the Kennedy Legacy, which spanned decades of political service to this country, died earlier today at the age of 77.

Edward Moore Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant glioma, a type of cancerous brain tumor, on May 20, 2008 after having suffered a seizure three days before. Sadly, he died this morning from that very brain cancer, which he had tried to defeat by undergoing a radical and aggressive surgery at Duke University to remove most of the tumor.

Edward Kennedy, younger brother to Joe Jr, JFK, and RFK, was the second most senior member of the Senate, after President pro tempore Robert Byrd of West Virginia, and the third-longest serving senator of all time, behind Byrd and Strom Thurmond of South Carolina. Even though he was a Democrat, I still respect the great man for what he did and what he went through.

There is very little that one can say that truly captures the image, the ideals, the power of Senator Kennedy. So I will not try, for what anyone says is not the whole story, and it would be disrespectful to try.

So farewell to yet another giant of America. And greetings to the future America that Edward Kennedy so doggedly believed in.

Until Next Time,
A True American
